Welcome to Cassandra’s Cup

Nestled in the heart of the beautiful and quaint village of Chawton, opposite Jane Austen’s House Museum, Cassandra’s Cup is a traditional English tea room. We offer an extensive range of traditional and specialty teas and coffees as well as scones, home-made cakes, light snacks, hearty home-cooked meals and, of course, traditional English Afternoon Tea and Cream Teas.

Who is Cassandra?

Cassandra was the name of both Jane Austen’s beloved elder sister and her mother, the great matriarch of the Austen family. She bore 8 children to her husband, country parson George Austen. Cassandra and Jane were extremely close, being the only girls.

More than a hundred letters from Jane to Cassandra have survived and have helped historians construct details about Jane Austen’s life. After the death of George Austen, Jane and the two Cassandras moved back to Hampshire and eventually ended up in Chawton. We think they would have adored our tea rooms!!!
